While the shoe does offer some cushioning, it’s intentionally minimal, designed to promote more mindful foot placement and natural landings, rather than absorbing impact the way most modern athletic shoes do. This approach may help engage and strengthen the muscles in your feet, ankles, legs, and hips – key areas responsible for balance, coordination, and overall movement control *.

Our footwear are born out of frustration with conventional footwear, aiming to create a hybrid between traditional running shoes and barefoot movement. It features strategically placed cushioning that begins at the heel and tapers off before the toes, encouraging a more natural toe-to-heel motion, unlike the modern heel-to-toe stride, which can often be considered biomechanically unnatural ***. The outsole’s tread pattern, with its deeper lugs, provides added traction and stability across various surfaces. While users may experience a learning curve when transitioning to this style of movement, landing toe-first – once the muscles and tendons have had time to adapt – may ultimately lead to safer, more efficient movement and a reduced risk of injury *.

*** Historical context: in a pre-modern context, a more natural running motion would have been toe-to-heel for several reasons. First, the absence of cushioning in early or no footwear made heel striking uncomfortable and potentially harmful. Biomechanically, landing on the forefoot or midfoot allows the foot’s arch and calf muscles to absorb impact and act as a natural spring. Anthropological evidence also shows that populations who run barefoot tend to favor forefoot or midfoot striking. From an evolutionary standpoint, running barefoot or in minimal footwear likely encouraged toe-to-heel movement to reduce impact on the heels and lower limbs. In essence, before the invention of cushioned shoes, toe-to-heel running was the default, natural gait that protected the body without artificial support. This motion more actively engages the calves, Achilles tendons, and hamstrings, potentially leading to greater strength in those areas – though it requires gradual adaptation to prevent strain or injury.
